Chapter 1: Controller #0 wiring plan

Controller Panel #0

The controller panel #0, assembled by the Lick Electronics Shop, has the following components:

The Galil controller is designed to control 4 axes through an amplifier board. The communication to that amplifier board is through ribbon cables J2 through J5.

Detailed schematics can be found on drawing EL-3100 and EL-3120

J2 connects to J2 MAIN on the Galil amplifier board

J3 connects to J3 AUX ENCODER on the Galil amplifier board

J4 connects to J4 DRIVER on the Galil amplifier board

J5 connects to J5 GENERAL I/O on the Galil amplifier board

There are also 3 other ribbon cables, JD1, JD2 & JD3 that connect to the Opto-22 boards.

JD1 (28-48) connects to Opto-22 panel #7

JD2 (49-72) connects to Opto-22 panel #8

JD3 (73-96) connects to Opto-22 panel #9

The controller communicates to the outside world through two RS-232 cables, main serial and aux. serial, and it derives its power from a 110 v. AC cord.

The amplifier assembly, built by Lick Electronics, is designed to control 4 axes (connectors J1 through J4) and it accepts feedback from auxiliary linear or rotary encoders (connectors J21 through J24). These connectors are connected internally to the enclosed four channel AMP-1140 amplifier through a 104 pin terminal strip on the amplifier board.

J1 connects to the cradle rotation drive motor.

J22 connects to JV42 on the Renishaw encoder interface (Renishaw #1).

J23 connects to JV43 on the Renishaw encoder interface (Renishaw #2).

The amplifier board is powered by a Lambda 48-volt supply that is connected to the AMP POWER connector on the amplifier board. The 5-volt logic power comes from the Galil controller. The power to the encoders (J1 through J4) comes from J0, which is connected to the external 5-volt supply terminal strip.
