Because the upgraded dewar contains a mosaic of three chips, the electronics inside of the CCD controller chassis has over doubled in size. To reduce electronics noise within, and to allow more room within the CCD controller chassis several functions of the old system have been moved into a separate chassis. This chassis is the Footlocker Interface Chassis. This box is mounted in the footlocker just below the CCD controller. In moving the above mentioned functions out of the CCD controller it became necessary to add a power supply to run the interface electronics. Also, the footlocker interface acts as a buffer to outside control signals going into the CCD chassis. That is, the footlocker interface power supplies are also used to provide the 'outside' power for the optical isolators that bring in both digital and analog signals to the CCD controller. For more information, look at the EL-3405 and EL-3406 schematics and write ups.

Sheet 1:

This board lives in the CCD footlocker interface box. The board has been built to fit a 3U chassis slot. Sheet one shows the power supply module, indicator LEDs, an example of a fully filtered output, and an example of a single 5V output connector. Sheet 2 details the remaining output circuits. The module is a Traco TPM 10515 triple output, 10 watt, switching mode power supply. It supplies power for the various functions that the CCD Footlocker Interface box has inherited from the original HIRES CCD Controller electronics. These functions include the shutter controller, EL-3414, the dewar fill system logic, EL-3415 and EL-2070, and the cooling fan control, EL-3416. The board has been made to be general purpose in that it provides four connectors for fully filtered +5V, +15V, and -15Voutputs. Also, there are six connectors that provide only +5V. In addition, if the filtering is not needed for a particular use, the filter components can be left out and the supply voltage can be jumpered to the connentor. The PI filters each consist of a 100uF and a 0.01uF capacitor in the input leg, a 820uH inductor and another 100uF and 0.01uF capacitor in the output leg. The 100 uF capacitors are all high quaility OSCON electrolytics.
The lower left corner of the drawing shows the front panel LEDs that allow the technician determine if the supplies are putting out at least some voltage. The second sheet shows the connections to the other output connectors.
